Script – Everything You Need To Know

A script is a written form of a story for a film, television show, or video game narrating the characters’ nature, movements, actions, expressions, and dialogues. It showcases the plot, tone, and flavor of the work of art. A script is different from a screenplay as the latter is the movie’s final version.

What is a Script?

A script is a document the director follows while staging a show or movie. It has instructions that include characters, settings, dialogue, and stage directions.

  • In theatrical arts, they are called play scripts, and script writers are playwrights.
  • In movies and T.V. shows, they are called screenwriters, and the script is called teleplay.
  • A movie script is called a screenplay

Irrespective of the fields, a good script forms the foundation for works of art and performance.

A script is made up of three sections:

  • The ACT explains the time and places the scene unfolds. It’s the major breakdown of the script.
  • The SCENE breaks down the details of each section introducing the characters and their actions.
  • The PAGE number is found at the top right corner for easy navigation through the pages while reading.

What is a Movie Script?

A movie stands on a good script. A script tells how a movie should be filmed and includes everything that happens in a movie. It is written for the actors, directors, and writers to use and helps to prepare their roles. Breaking down a script means reading it and identifying the parts needed to improve it. However, there are stages in script writing

The first and foremost step is to develop an idea and figuring the genre of the film, such as:

  • Comedy
  • Adventure
  • Action
  • Sci-fi
  • Rom-Com
  • Horror
  • Drama

The hardest part is outlining the screenplay, which may take more than two hours and cover almost 70-180 pages, spanning 120 pages on average.
